Sash
The sash is the movable frame that holds the glass in a window. On a fixed window, it is the frame around the glass.
On an operable window, the sash is the part that moves. It holds the glass and swings, tilts or slides. The fixed outer frame around it stays in the wall. On a fixed window the glass sits in a sash that does not move.
Sash style sets how the window opens. A casement window swings out on side hinges. A tilt-and-turn window tilts or swings in. Smaller muntins can divide the glass inside it. Browse our window options to compare styles. Ask how heavy the sash is, since weight affects hardware and how easily it moves.
