Steel windows and doors
How much do steel windows cost?
Honey Rock does not publish prices, so we cannot quote a number here. Cost depends on window size, glass makeup, finish, hardware, how many units open, and freight. Fill out the quote form with your openings and Honey Rock will be in touch. Ask for a written quote that names the system, the glass and the finish.
Read moreAre steel windows energy efficient?
They can be, if the frame has a thermal break and the glass suits your climate. The US Department of Energy says a mostly metal frame needs carefully integrated thermal breaks. Judge any window by its NFRC label, not by frame material alone.
Read moreDo steel windows rust?
Bare steel can rust, so the finish matters. Jada says its steel components are fully zinc coated after welding, drilling and machining. A patina or paint finish goes on after that. Ask for the finish system in writing and ask how to care for it near pools and irrigation.
Read moreWhich is better, steel or aluminum windows?
Neither wins on every job. Steel suits a slim, hand-finished look with a patina or painted surface. Aluminum suits projects that want many systems and factory color. Compare sightline numbers, sash weight limits, NFRC ratings and finish for your actual openings, then choose.
Read moreWhat is a thermally broken window?
It is a metal window with a barrier between the outside and inside parts of the frame, so heat moves through the metal more slowly. Jada joins the two halves of its steel profiles with a pressure infused polyurethane thermal barrier.
Read moreDo thermally broken windows reduce heating and cooling bills?
The break helps the frame, but bills depend on the whole window: glass coatings, U-factor, SHGC, air leakage and installation. The US Department of Energy says energy-efficient windows can reduce the energy used by heating and cooling systems. Compare NFRC labels before you buy.

How do pivot doors work?
A pivot door turns on a vertical axis instead of side hinges, which lets a tall, wide panel swing. Jada describes a vertical pivot door system whose doors pivot on a hydraulic floor pivot. Ask about panel weight, sill drainage and where the door can be installed.
Read moreAre pivot doors secure?
Security depends on the locking hardware and the door's tested rating, not on whether the door pivots or swings. Ask how many locking points the door has, what security class it holds, and who stands behind the hardware. Get those answers in writing before you order.
Read moreHow much does a pivot door cost?
Honey Rock does not publish prices. A pivot door's cost depends on panel size, glass, frame material, finish, hardware and installation. Send your opening size and style through the quote form and Honey Rock will be in touch. Ask for line items so you can compare offers.
Read moreWhat is a lift-and-slide door?
It is a large sliding door whose panel lifts slightly on its rollers to move, then lowers to seal when closed. Bertrand lists a maximum sash weight of approx. 661 lbs for its ConceptPatio 155 lift-and-slide. Ask for size and weight limits for the exact system.
Read moreAre lift-and-slide doors better than sliding doors?
They suit very large, heavy panels, and they close tight when lowered. They also cost more and need precise installation. A standard slider fits smaller openings and lighter glass. Compare panel size, weight, track type and air leakage ratings for your opening before you choose.
Read moreHow much do multi-slide doors cost?
Honey Rock does not publish prices. Multi-slide cost depends on the number of panels, panel size, glass, pocket or stacked layout, track type and finish. Tell us your opening width and layout through the quote form, and Honey Rock will be in touch.
Read moreAre bifold doors worth it?
They are worth it when you want to open a whole wall to the patio. Jada says folding windows and doors offer the unique ability to open an entire wall for indoor/outdoor living. The trade-offs are more panel joints, a stack of panels when open and more hardware.
Read moreShould I choose French doors or sliding doors?
Choose French doors for a classic look and a full-width opening that needs swing room. Choose sliding doors when floor space is tight or panels are large. Bertrand says it makes French doors in PVC and wood, and Sun offers a true French configuration.

What is SHGC?
SHGC, or solar heat gain coefficient, shows how much of the sun's heat a window lets in. The US Department of Energy says it varies between 0 and 1, and a lower number means less heat is transmitted. In a Texas summer, a low SHGC on sun-facing walls matters.
Read moreWhat is a good U-factor for windows?
A lower U-factor is better, because less heat flows through the window. NFRC lists a U-factor range of 0.20 to 1.20 on its label. ENERGY STAR sets limits by climate zone, so check your zone. Highland Park prints U-factor under 0.35 on its plan checklist.
Read moreWhich window efficiency ratings should a Texas home look for?
No single number fits every Texas home. ENERGY STAR sets U-factor and SHGC limits by climate zone, and says a low SHGC matters on south, east and west windows in warmer climates. Check your zone and your city's checklist. Highland Park prints SHGC under 0.25.
Read moreWhat is Low-E glass?
Low-E glass has a thin coating that reduces heat flow through the glass. The US Department of Energy lists low-emittance coatings among the features that lower the U-factor and says low-e products come in low, moderate and high solar gain. Ask which coating suits each wall.
Read moreWhat is argon gas in windows?
Argon is an inert gas used between glass panes to slow heat flow. The US Department of Energy lists argon or krypton fill among features that lower the U-factor. Jada says testing shows the optimum space for air and argon is around 1/2 inch up to 5/8 inch between panes.
Read moreWhat does an NFRC label tell me?
It gives energy performance ratings you can compare between windows and doors. The label lists U-factor, which shows how well a product keeps heat from escaping, SHGC, which shows how much solar heat it lets in, and air leakage. Ask for the label of your exact unit.
Read moreDo new windows help with Texas heat?
They can, when the new glass has a low SHGC and the frame seals well. ENERGY STAR says a low SHGC is important for windows facing south, east and west in warmer climates. Shade, orientation and the quality of installation also affect how much heat you feel.
Read moreIs there a federal tax credit for new windows?
Not for new purchases. The IRS says you can claim the energy efficient home improvement credit for improvements made through December 31, 2025. That date has passed. Ask your tax adviser about any other incentive, and do not plan a project around the old credit.

Do I need a permit to replace windows in Dallas?
Ask the city before you order. Dallas describes a residential permit as approval for construction, renovation or major repairs, and we found no rule that exempts every window swap. One tornado-recovery page says damaged windows typically need none, but it is not a general rule. Rules checked November 2026.
Read moreCan I replace windows in a Dallas historic district?
Usually only with approval first. Dallas requires a Certificate of Appropriateness before exterior work on Landmarks and in Landmark districts. Minor changes generally need only staff approval, but substantial alterations go to the Landmark Commission. Bring product data and drawings to the application.
Read moreDo I need a permit to replace windows in Highland Park or University Park?
University Park says a permit is needed in many cases for replacing windows. Highland Park lists permits for remodeling, additions and repairs, and its plan checklist asks for window SHGC and U-factor. They are separate towns with separate offices, so confirm with each before you order.
Read moreDo I need a permit to replace windows in Fort Worth?
Yes. Fort Worth says replacement or addition of exterior doors, windows or burglar bars requires a building permit. Urban design districts and historic districts add a Certificate of Appropriateness review. Confirm the submittal list with Fort Worth Development Services before you order.
Read moreDo I need a permit to replace windows in Southlake?
Yes. Southlake's residential guidelines say window replacement does require a permit. The city also asks for an overall photo of the house and photos of each elevation with replaced windows at inspection. Call Building Inspections to confirm what to submit.

Can hail damage house windows?
Yes. Large hail can break glass and damage frames and other parts of a home. The May 1995 Mayfest storm caused an estimated $2 billion in damages in Tarrant and Dallas counties. The National Weather Service says severe storms are most common in the spring months.
Read moreWhat should I do about hail damage to windows?
File an insurance claim as soon as you can, and photograph the damage first. The Texas Department of Insurance also says it is illegal to waive a homeowners deductible under state law. Make only temporary repairs, such as boarding up broken windows.
Read moreAre impact windows worth it in Texas?
It depends on the risk you want to cover and the rating the product holds. Hurricane and impact ratings are specific to each product line. Bertrand lists a sliding system approved for high-risk hurricane zones. Jada publishes no impact rating that we found. Ask for the exact rating in writing.
