Impact-resistant glass
Impact-resistant glass is laminated glazing built to stay in the frame after a hard strike, such as hail or windborne debris.
Impact glass starts as laminated glass with a strong interlayer. The pane may crack from a hit, but the interlayer holds it together and the opening stays closed. That keeps wind and rain out of the house during a storm.
The frame, anchors and glass all work as one system. A tough pane in a weak frame will not perform. Ask for the test result for the whole assembly, not only the glass. See the windborne debris rating entry for how products are labeled, and read our post on North Texas hail season.
