Lift-and-slide door
A lift-and-slide door has a handle that lifts the panel off its seals so it glides easily, then lowers to lock tight.
You turn the handle and the heavy glass panel rises slightly on rollers. It then moves with one hand. Turn the handle back and it settles onto its seals. A standard slider rides on rollers all the time and seals less firmly.
This design suits large, heavy panels. Our partner Bertrand lists a lift-and-slide system with a maximum sash weight of approx. 661 lbs. Lift-and-slide is also the base for a multi-slide door. Compare it to standard sliders in our lift-and-slide vs sliding doors guide and the sliding and lift-slide doors pillar. Ask about the track depth at the sill and how it drains.
