Fixed (picture) window
A fixed window does not open. It gives the largest clear view and the thinnest frame for its size.
With no moving parts, a fixed window has a simpler frame than an operable one. More of the opening is glass. That makes it the usual choice for big views and tall walls of glass.
Because it cannot open, plan ventilation elsewhere. Pair it with an awning window or a casement window next to or below it. A mullion can join several into a wall. See our fixed and picture windows page. Ask about glass weight and how the opening will be supported, because large glass is heavy. Ask about the glass type for sun exposure.
