Aluminum-clad
Aluminum-clad describes a wood window or door whose outside face is covered with a layer of aluminum that resists weather and fading.
Aluminum cladding is a shell, usually extruded aluminum with a baked-on finish, fitted over the outside of a wood frame. The wood stays inside where it is dry. The aluminum faces the sun, rain and hail.
The shell also adds strength and cuts exterior upkeep, since you do not repaint the outside as often as bare wood. Ask how thick the cladding is, what the finish warranty covers and how the frame drains water. Aluminum-clad framing is the standard build for a wood-clad window.
